The college publicly announced the creation of an extraordinary series of student employment opportunities to help students fund their education. Called Student Self-Help Industries, students could earn from 25 to 45 cents an hour by working at one of the seven different industries, which included a ceramics factory (pictured) that produced flower pots for florists in Oklahoma and adjoining states. Other industries included a hooked rug operation, cabinetmaking shop, broom factory, duplicating service and the college cafeteria.

Of course, there was usually some weeding to do in the college gardens, which was often relied upon for fresh vegetables.
