When the new Engineering Building opened in January 1939, all departments in the School of Engineering, with the exception of architecture, occupied the new structure. In addition to providing numerous classrooms, offices and laboratories, the building (now known as Engineering South) housed the campus amateur radio station and had an auditorium which could seat 400 people. It was the first building on campus totally devoted to engineering and continues to actively serve as classrooms for the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.
