U.S. President Harry S. Truman named Oklahoma A&M College President Henry G. Bennett to serve as assistant secretary of state and head the nation's Technical Cooperation Administration, better known at the Point Four Program. By the next year, Bennett was already directing 139 projects in 34 countries, offering technical and scientific aid to help reduce famine, disease and economic hardships.
