A conference on electromagnetic relays was held under the direction of Charles F. Cameron of the electrical engineering faculty in 1953. The relays were used in many applications, especially in telephone exchanges and early computers.

Over the years, additional conferences regularly attracted national and international participants to campus. Cameron is pictured with a guide he helped write on electromagnetic relay terminology.
