The OSU Interfraternity Council, the governing body of the fraternities, won the national Iron Man Trophy for the second time in 1962 to make OSU the only institution that ever won back-to-back trophies. The award, from the National Interfraternity Conference, honors the nation's most outstanding council.

OSU Assistant Dean of Men Darrel Troxel and Interfraternity Council President Don Timberlake admire the Iron Man trophy. At the time, Troxel had advised the council since 1953.

Today, the local fraternity system has grown to include a total of 24 nationally recognized men’s organizations. Each of the fraternities promote academic achievement, provide leadership opportunities, campus activities, fellowship, and community service to both the OSU campus and the surrounding communities.
