Henry P. Iba was named the coach of the USA Olympic basketball team for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he led the team to nine wins and no losses and defeated the Soviet Union to give the U.S. its sixth straight gold medal in the event.

Four years later, in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Iba became the first coach in Olympic basketball history to coach two gold medal teams.
