OSU was one of four universities in Oklahoma to start offering courses at the newly established University Center at Tulsa in 1982.

Thomas J. Smith, director of Education Extension, served as campus coordinator for OSU.

On January 1, 1999, the University Center at Tulsa officially became OSU-Tulsa, an extension of the main OSU campus in Stillwater.
