Cowgirls head basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna as well as alumni Olin and Paula Branstetter died in the crash of a small plane in Arkansas on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, during a recruiting trip.

Budke was in his seventh season as the Cowgirls coach and under his direction OSU had made postseason appearances in each of the past five seasons, including three trips to the NCAA tournament. He had transformed the program into a league title contender and NCAA Sweet 19 participant.

Serna, who was known as an outstanding role model, helped guide the resurgence of the women's team as the program's recruiting coordinator.
