In 1973 Patrice Latimer was the first African-American president of OSU’s Student Government Association. She was described as a highly visible student leader with a quick smile, hearty laugh and commanding presence.
Interviewed years later for the campus magazine, she recalled it was an honor to serve in the position, adding, “It gave me the courage to take on some things that I might not have had I not been able to grow here at OSU.”
After graduating from OSU in 1975, the Tulsa native earned a legal degree and practiced in Oklahoma and Washington D.C. before retiring.
The Black Alumni Association honored her with the Trailblazer Award in 2008.
