Wayne W. Miller became the second director of Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training (now known as OSU Institute of Technology) in 1963, coming highly recommended by his predecessor, Keith Covelle.
Student enrollment tripled during Miller’s 20-year tenure, which included the construction of nine new facilities, the renovation of other buildings to providing more laboratory and classroom space, millions of dollars of added instructional equipment, and $4 million for construction of new student housing facilities.
In 1979, the institution was approved to grant college credit for courses taken at the technical school and to issue associate of technology degrees for certain programs of study.
By the time of his retirement in 1983, Miller had presided over 60 graduation ceremonies and signed more than 17,000 diplomas.
