The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, one of the most prestigious scholarship foundations in the nation, named OSU a Truman Honor Institute in 2000, because the university and its students earned it.
Honor institutions are selected for actively encouraging outstanding young people to pursue careers in public service, effectively promoting the Truman program on their campus and sustaining success in helping their students win Truman Scholarships.
OSU has had a total of 17 Truman Scholars, with the first one being awarded in 1980, and the most recent in 2014. See a scrapbook page featuring photos of several OSU winners over the years.
