OSU begins receiving 67 percent of its energy needs from its 26-turbine Cowboy Wind Farm near Blackwell. Governor Mary Fallin and OSU President Burns Hargis are among those who ""flip the switch"" to celebrate the use of wind energy at the university.
The wind farm has a total capacity of almost 60 megawatts. One megawatt powers about 250 homes.
The wind farm is the latest in a series of partnerships between OG&E and OSU. The utility funds professorships and scholarships for students pursuing degrees releated to renewable energy. OSU-Oklahoma City offers an associate in applied science degree in wind turbine technology that's geared toward entry-level supervisory positions.
