2020 Murray name removed from campus buildings

In summer 2020, the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents unanimously voted to remove the name “Murray” from Murray Hall and North Murray Hall on campus.

The buildings were named after former Gov. William H. Murray. Known for his support of racist policies, Murray helped promote Jim Crow laws, which negatively impacted the lives of Black Oklahomans.

The decision to remove the name reflects OSU’s commitment to diversity and dedication to eliminating any symbol of racism on campus. OSU also renamed Human Sciences and Human Sciences West to Nancy Randolph Davis and Nancy Randolph Davis West, in honor of the civil rights pioneer and first African American student at OSU.
