Often called :Oklahoma A&M's John Philip Sousa,” Bohumil Makovsky was a prominent professional musician who served as head of the music department from 1915-43. Those who played for him in the band were proud to be one of “Boh's boys” who were taught promptness and responsibility as well as music. Boh started a state band clinic in 1933 to help develop and strengthen public school band programs. Nationally prominent band directors and instrumental specialists were brought in each year.
