'Oklahoma Gardening' celebrates 50th anniversary on the air

For 50 years, “Oklahoma Gardening” has delivered expert horticulture tips, inspiration and education to viewers across the state. The show launched its golden anniversary season on Feb. 15, continuing its tradition of sharing timely gardening information while honoring its legacy and embracing the future. Host Casey Hentges welcomed former hosts back to the studio garden at The Botanic Garden at OSU to reflect on the show’s evolution. Viewers also got a behind-the-scenes look at how production changed since the show’s early days of live filming in Oklahoma City. To mark the milestone, the show introduced a Plant-A-Row Challenge, encouraging viewers to grow extra produce for donation. Those who donated 50 pounds or more could enter a raffle for a garden tiller. A youth gardening contest and segments on emerging technologies like drones and gardening apps were also featured. A special documentary, “Rooted in Oklahoma,” aired March 27 on OETA. Commemorative T-shirts, created in partnership with Eskimo Joe’s, supported the show and the OSU Student Farm. “Oklahoma Gardening” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. on OETA, with full episodes and clips available online.
