The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, one of the most prestigious scholarship foundations in the nation, named OSU a Truman Honor Institute in 2000. Honor institutions are selected for actively encouraging outstanding young people to pursue careers in public service, effectively promoting the Truman program on their campus and sustaining success in helping their students win Truman Scholarships. OSU has had many Truman Scholars, with the first one being awarded in 1980.
