Wentz Hall completes housing cluster

With the addition of Wentz Hall in 1964, the cluster of buildings on the southwest side of campus, known collectively as Scott-Parker-Wentz, became a reality and shared a common dining room. One residence hall was named after Angelo C. Scott, the fifth president of the university, another after Quanah Parker, a chief of the Comanche Indian tribe. Wentz, the third and final hall in the cluster, was 10 stories high and named in honor of Lew Wentz, a Ponca City philanthropist and strong supporter of higher education. The oilman who had been too poor to attend college earlier in life is pictured in this series visiting with Dean of Agriculture W. L. Blizzard and Irene Rick. The Wentz loan program remained the principal source of student loan money at OSU through the 1950s and ’60s. Several annual scholarships and research projects on campus continue to be funded by the OSU Lew Wentz Foundation.
