Increased student demand for on-campus housing led to the construction of Jessie Thatcher and Carter C. Hanner Halls in 1925.
Both facilities were named after former students and were dedicated in joint ceremonies on April 16, 1926.
The halls were mirror images of each other, with Thatcher for women, named in honor of Jessie Thatcher, the first woman graduate, and Hanner (pictured) for men, named after Captain Carter C. Hanner, a former student who lost his life in World War I.
Total construction costs for the two halls was $300,000.
