Bonnie E. Emerson, class of 1945, was the first woman to be elected president of the Student Association (now the Student Government Association) in the history of Oklahoma A&M College. She served from 1943-44.
Emerson also held the title of president of the student senate (an office formerly held by the vice-president). She also served as president of several other student organizations, was a varsity cheerleader and a four-sport letterman. She is described as a formidable and inspirational young lady, who forged a path for other female students
Emerson grew up during the Great Depression in the rural community of Bowlegs, Oklahoma.
After graduating in 1945, she completed a master's degree in 1946 while working as a secretary to legendary Coach Henry Iba.
