Science Hall, also known as the Chemistry Building, became the first home of the newly created School of Communications in 1958.

By the time the Paul Miller Journalism and Broadcasting addition was dedicated in 1976, renovation work hid the building's Georgian columns so some of the additional space could be used as a mechanical room for air conditioning and other necessary utility controls.
