A style show (pictured) was among the first activities organized to celebrate Mom’s Weekend on campus, which began in 1965. Later, Spring Sing, coordinated by fraternities and sororities, became an annual event for the weekend.

The Mortar Board organizes Mom’s Weekend, which has become an opportunity to invite both parents to get involved in their son or daughter’s college life. After two or three years of a mother/son line dancing event, Mortar Board decided to have a mother/son softball game, then there was the mother/son look-alike contest. Some of the colleges have open houses so parents can meet professors.

Mom’s weekend got off to a slow start when the first one was mistakenly scheduled for Easter weekend.
