A new Family Study Center, for the purpose of encouraging and conducting family-related research, was established in the College of Home Economics (now known as the College of Human Sciences).

Students researched numerous topics, including child rearing. The center hosted a series of conferences on families, including one on work that explored the roles of family members from their own perspectives. The center is credited for sparking ideas that ultimately resulted in some of the services the college now provides families.
