The Boren Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, named in honor of then U.S. Senator David Boren, was dedicated and opened for business on March 23, 1981.

Located on the corner of Farm Road and Hall of Fame Blvd., the building spans over 145,000 square feet and serves as the veterinary medical teaching hospital for the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. The building also includes offices for the clinical faculty, and a large classroom for teaching fourth-year veterinary students.

Soon after the dedication, Dean Patrick Morgan announced that the college had received full academic accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association for the first time. The hospital has been accredited and certified by the American Animal Hospital Association since 1983.

Boren served as governor from 1975-79 and in the U.S. Senate from 1979-94. He resigned his senate seat in 1994 to serve as president of the University of Oklahoma.
