Hydro native Blaine Greteman became the first OSU student to be named a Rhodes Scholar on Dec. 6, 1997.

He later graduated from the University of Oxford with a master's degree in philosophy and earned his doctorate at the University of California-Berkeley in 2008.

He worked as a journalist for TIME magazine while he was in London and as a commentator for the BBC.

Greteman returned to OSU in 2008 to teach for a while and now teaches in the English Department at the University of Iowa.
