A major renovation was begun on Boone Pickens Stadium in 2003 with a $70 million gift from Pickens, $20 million of which was set aside for stadium expansion. The facelift was a multi-year project, with the south side being completed in 2004, the north side in 2006 and the west end zone project completed in 2009. The west end zone expansion was the most lucrative phase of the stadium renovation, with the addition of a new multilevel football operations center. The renovation was completed in 2009, with the total stadium capacity raised to 60,218.
