First Regularly Scheduled American Airlines Flight Lands at Stillwater Regional Airport First Regularly Scheduled American Airlines Flight Lands at Stillwater Regional Airport

Oklahoma State University, the City of Stillwater, and American Airlines invited the public to witness the landing of the first commercial flight from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Stillwater Regional Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 23 with an open house and refreshments at the airport.

“We are very fortunate to have American Airlines jet service offered here in Stillwater,” Mayor Gina Noble said. “This will not only make it easier for our residents to fly from their hometown, but it will also expand travel opportunities for our local businesses to connect with national and international clients and boost this region’s economy.”

OSU President Burns Hargis and Noble praised the diligent work of former Mayor John Bartley, OSU Senior Vice President Joe Weaver, Stillwater Regional Airport Director Gary Johnson and members of the Stillwater Airport Authority.

The first flight initiated two daily nonstop flights to and from Stillwater and Dallas. The airline soon gained a faithful following with more than twice the number of passengers expected during the first year of operations. Regular business passengers as well as vacationers can travel to Dallas for a quick meeting or to make a connection on one of more than 800 flights to over 190 cities in 29 countries.
