Morris named 25th football coach
Oklahoma State University Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg announced the hiring of Eric Morris as OSU’s 25th head football coach, pending board approval. Morris arrives from the University of North Texas, where he transformed the Mean Green into one of the nation’s most explosive offenses. His hire marks OSU’s first sitting FBS head coach appointment in school history and the first such hire since 1969. Known for his offensive innovation and quarterback development, Morris has coached or recruited stars like Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield. At UNT, he guided the program from a 5-7 record in 2023 to an 11-1 mark in 2025, earning a national semifinalist nod for the George Munger Coach of the Year award. His 2025 team leads the FBS in scoring and total offense and reached the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1959. Across 13 seasons as a head coach or offensive coordinator, Morris’s teams have ranked top-five nationally in passing offense nine times and top-10 in total offense 10 times. He previously served as head coach at Incarnate Word, winning two Southland Conference titles, and as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, where he mentored Mahomes. "For many reasons, including the kind of person he is and the lasting relationships he builds with his players, Coach Morris is the perfect fit as the next leader of Cowboy football," Weiberg said. "The future is bright for OSU football." Morris, a Texas native and former Texas Tech standout, holds a career record of 45-33. He and his wife, Maggie, have two sons, Jack and George.
