OSU receives historic $250M investment to build world class veterinary teaching hospital
Oklahoma State University has received a historic $250 million state appropriation — the largest in its history — to build a new, state-of-the-art veterinary teaching hospital. Combined with $78 million allocated in 2023, this transformational investment will expand OSU’s capacity to train veterinarians and support Oklahoma’s agriculture, food security and public health. The new 255,000-square-foot facility will replace the current hospital, which was built for 60 students but now serves over 150. It will feature advanced imaging, oncology treatment tools and modern equipment for both small and large animal care.OSU President Jim Hess called the investment a milestone for the university and the state, reinforcing OSU’s land-grant mission. The funding also addresses accreditation concerns and ensures OSU remains competitive as one of only 33 accredited veterinary colleges in the U.S.“This is an investment in the future of veterinary medicine in Oklahoma,” said Dr. Kelly Black, hospital director. The new facility will help address the state’s rural veterinarian shortage and support students who serve all 77 counties.Construction of the new hospital marks a bold step forward for OSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the communities it serves.
